Workshops on Korean Art: The Dragonfly and The Ume Flower in Winter

Sunday 7th August, 2005

One-day workshop from 11am - 3pm(~4pm)

Media: pencil drawing and watercolors on paper


"Free painting demonstration" -The focus is understanding what is the dragonfly and how to draw the ume flower and another natural things with the dragonfly.


Step 1, (11:00~11:30) beginning - "Mr Kim will give the documents for the detaild daytime schedule with photos and the copied CD to the participant"

Mr Kim - Participant : Look at the material photos(or on the notebook computer) of dragonflies and natural images such as flowers(ume, rose. cosmos), leaves, sky and then imagine that how to draw(composition, theme - what four seasons imagine will be choose/draw with Dragonfly)

Step 2, (11:30~13:00) demonstration -1

Mr Kim : Set a model sketch and draw with pencil(with an eraser) or color pencil on paper.

Step 3, (13:00~13:30) take a brake(with some light lunch?)

Step 4, (13:30~15:00) demonstration -2

Mr Kim : Set a model paint with watercolors on paper.

(Step 5), (15:00~16:00) free workshop - "If some of the participant want to have a workshop, they should prepare the tools what they want to have as belows".


Sketch or draw with pencil, color pencil or watercolors on paper.

There is no rule to take the technique(way) such as exact representation - concrete - abstract.

Participant need just only interesting in the dragonfly as a symbol combining the refined power and activity of modern civilization with the raw, vivid life of nature.

The unfettered flight of the dragonfly echoes human mental and physical freedom as well as the whimsical world of the child.


Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August, 2005

Three-day workshop from 10am - 2.30pm(~3.30pm) each day

Media:

Day 1~2 : Acrylics on canvas -- outlining & background work plus large forms

Day 3 : Oils -- details/emphasis & finishing

The participant need to take two canvas and related tools.

 

Day 1 ========================================

Step 1, (10:00~12:00) workshop -1

Mr Kim : Set a model paint with Acrylics on canvas. -- outlining & background work plus large forms

Participant : Watching at Mr Kim's painting figure(process),look at the material photos(or on the notebook computer) of dragonflies and natural images. And then imagine(idea sketch) that how to draw(composition, theme -what four seasons imagine will be choose/draw with Dragonfly) yours.

Step 2, (12:00~12:30) workshop - 2

Discusswith each participant for their idea sketch with pencil on paper(small sketchbook) and decide how to paint.

Step 3, (12:30~13:00) take a brake(with some light lunch?)

Step 4, (13:00~14:30) workshop - 3

Participant : Set a paint with Acrylics on canvas. -- outlining & background work plus large forms

(Step 5), (14:30~15:30) free workshop - "If some of the participant want to have a workshop more, they can do".


Day 2 ========================================

Step 1, (10:00~12:30) workshop -1

Participant : Set a paint with Acrylics on canvas. -- outlining & background work plus large forms

Step 2, (12:30~13:00) take a brake(with some light lunch?)

Step 3, (13:00~14:30) workshop - 3

Participant : Set a paint with Acrylics on canvas. -- outlining & background work plus large forms

(Step 4), (14:30~15:30) free workshop - "If some of the participant want to have a workshop more, they can do".


Day 3 ========================================

Mr Kim : Set a model paint with Oilson canvas. -- outlining & background work plus large forms

Step 2, (11:30~12:30) workshop -2

Participant : Set a paint with Oils on canvas. -- details/emphasis

Step 3, (12:30~13:00) take a brake(with some light lunch?)

Step 3, (13:00~14:30) workshop - 3

Participant : Set a paint with Oils on canvas. -- details/emphasis & finishing

Step 4, (14:30~15:00) workshop - 4

General survey [review, critique, comment?] - for the finished participants' paintings.
