 The first subject of this exhibition is images of surfing that I painted on beaches on the Gold Coast (Queensland) and at Byron Bay (N.S.W) last summer in Australia.  The second subject is the Dragonfly Seasons.  There are about sixty paintings, including oils, acrylics and watercolors on canvas and paper.

The Vibrant Beaches :  The beaches appear so beautiful to me, with a panorama of great excitement and continuity. The images of beach and surfer have been indelibly scorched on my heart. The glamour and grace of the surfer, coupled with the constant motion and power of the ocean forms a compelling spectacle of a daily lifestyle which I like very much.    What I have painted on the canvas represents, for me, a going back to nature and a return to the human's pure, native state.

Dragonfly Seasons :   I am interested in the dragonfly as a symbol combining the refined power and activity of modern civilization with the raw, pure life of nature.    The unfettered flight of the dragonfly echoes human mental and physical freedom, as well as the whimsical world of the child. In short, my dragonflies evoke a return to nature, an expression of the desire for living naturally, unlimited human imagination and the mysteries of the cosmos.   The works of 'Ume Flowers in Winter' forms a part of the Winter of Dragonfly Seasons series.     June. 2006

금번 전시작품은, 지난 여름 호주(濠洲) Gold Coast(Queensland) 와 Byron Bay(N.S.W) 해변의 서핑(surfing) 풍경과 잠자리의 사계(四季)를 주제로 한 유채/아크릴/수채화 작품 60여점이다.

그곳의 바다는 너무나 아름다운 거대한 파노라마의 연속이었고 가슴 짜릿한 전율이었다.

가슴이 통렬(痛烈) 할 듯, 끊임없이 밀려드는 파도에 몸을 실은 채 터질 듯한 몸짓의

 서핑 하는 모습이 너무 좋았다. 그리고 그런 일상적인 그들의 모습이 너무 좋았다.

그들과 함께 자연으로 그리고 인간 본연의 순수한 모습으로 돌아가고 싶은 마음을

 캔버스에 담고자 했다.

잠자리의 사계(四季)

나는 잠자리를 통해서 살아 숨쉬는 현대문명의 정제(精製)된 힘과

 자연그대로의 순수한 삶과의 상징적 결합에 대해 관심을 갖고 있다.  잠자리의 구속되지 않은 자유로운 비행은 동심의 세계뿐만 아니라 인간의 정신과 육체의 자유로움을 나타낸다. 즉,

나의 잠자리는 자연으로의 복귀와 자연적 삶에 대한 욕구를 불러일으키며

 인간의 끝없는 상상력 및 우주적 신비스러움을 나타내고자 한 것이다.

겨울 홍매화는 잠자리 사계 중 겨울에 해당된다.
