A cultural Exchange :
Since July 2005, I have traveled frequently a very long distance to visit a familiar country, Australia, I have had several international exhibitions include solo exhibitions.
Over the past years, I have created many art works in Australia. I was sure I could
share my ideals with the world, through art.
What I have painted on the canvas represents, for me, a going back to nature and a return to the human¡¯s pure, native state.

Maehwa of Korea :
My ¡°Maehwa(Plum Blossoms)¡± paintings reach beyond the mere aesthetic beauty of the subject, bringing to bear symbolic meaning, especially in the realm of Korea¡¯s emotional disposition: the noble character and strong discipline of the dedicated scholar.

It is easy to imagine the tree and its beautiful flowers as symbolic of struggle and life¡¯s perpetual soldiering on. The act of blossoming is both gentle and forceful. The petal¡¯s delicacy contrasts to gnarled boughs and rough twisted trunks. The Maehwa stretches toward the unreachable sky with an unyielding tenacity.

The manager : Hello. Today we'll talk about Mr Kim Changhan's oeuvre and his life. Thank you for coming here mr kim.

Me : Nice to meet you.

The manager : You're working at the park in the United Nation Memorial Cemetery in busan. There are a lot of cherry blossoms? I saw cherry blossoms at the park too. Don't you think their colors are so good? How long are you planning to work their?

Me : It is at the peak of the time. I've been drawing for a week and planning to stay a week more.

The manager : We've first met when you were drawing Jajamae at Tongdo temple. I was very impressed by you, working with huge canvas. Isn't it hard to work at the sight?

Me : I'm used to it so I'm okay.

The manager : I used to go there to take a picture and you were alway standing there like a statue. I was deeply impressed by that. Like an old saying "Cherry blossom dosn't sell it's scent to cold" you stayed still at there. How was it?

Me : Cherry blossoms in this cold season is more dramatic and has strong scent.

The manager : You've been drawing a lot cherry blossoms, how many work has been done?

Me : Can't tell exactly how many, but I've been drawing for 18 year. There are small works and big works. But as time goes by, I prefer bigger canvas and tried some series which is drawn in separate canvas. Also big paintings took more then a year to finish it. I've been moving from Ulsan/ Busan to Mt. Jiri through January to March, to follow the cherry blossom.

The manager : I also like the scent of cherry blossom, how do you think about it, after spending so many time infront of it?

Me : I really like scent of old cherry blossom. Standing there all day, I can feel the diverse change and elegance.

The manager : Photographers take picture at early morning and late afternoon, how about you?

Me : Like photograph, light and shade is important in painting. But liveness is also important in working at sight. Dramatic effect made by changes of weather is fascinating. So I try to remeber the beautiful moment and try to express it. It could be different with photograph or cherry blossom what you've seen.

The manager : You prefer to work on sight, as I know. Is there any special reason for that?

Me : As working on sight, I can feel the changes of moving sun, chaning shadow, different scnet and shade of flowers. It is life it self and it helpt me to draw the diversity and dynamic nature.

The manager : Very impressing. You've graduate Hongik university? What brought you to Busan?

Me : After graduating graduate school, I've came to Busan to work as partime lecturer at 1991. After that I went to Ulsan and lived there over 30 year. I worked as high school teacher retired 8 and a half year early to focus on art work.

The manager : It would have been very challanging to leave stable job and go abroad. What did you work on at there?

Me : I tried to paint the feelings and liveness of the foeign country visiing Europe, Austrailia, Miyanama and China.

The manger : I see your doing a lot of big works.

Me : I want to express the huge impression which i've felt while visiting many countrys so I prefer to work on big painting.

The manager : What did you felt on art fair and biennale?

Me : I participated at there but right now I want to focsus on invitational exhibition in Korea and abroad.

Me : I agree. I tried divers way to release my works, but right I think that it is more important to express paiter's uniqueness and indivisuality. So I want to focus on priviate exhibition.
