한국 고매의 특징/아름다움 The beauty and characteristic of Maehwa (Plum Tree Blossoms) 이곳은 매화꽃이 대부분 떨어지고 꽃받침과 꽃 수술이 남아있는데, Here, most of the Maehwa blossoms have fallen, but the calyxes and stamens remain. 제가 몇 년전 부터 이런 모습에도 많은 관심을 갖고 지켜보면서 그림 그리고 있습니다. I have been watching and painting like this with great interest since a few years ago. 물론 꽃이 늦겨울~초봄에 꽃 봉우리가 맺히고 피어나는 것도 설레고 아름답지만, Of course, it is exciting and beautiful to see flowers bud and bloom in late winter and early spring, 활짝 핀 만개한 것도 그렇고, As well as in full bloom, 이렇게 꽃잎이 다 떨어지는 혹은 떨어진 이후의 모습도 제 마음과 눈길을 사로잡습니다. The flower petals falling or after falling also captures my heart and eyes. 이런걸 보면 마치 사람의 인생의 삶의 주기에서 노년 이후를 보는 것 같습니다. Looking at this, it's like looking at the life cycle of a person's life after old age. 어린 시절 꽃 몽우리가 맺힌 모습에서 청춘의 모습으로, 앵두 빛 같은 입술에 터질 듯 한 육체미도 아름답지만 From the appearance of flower clusters in childhood to the appearance of youth, cherry-colored lips and a physical beauty that seems to burst, are beautiful. 중년을 지나 노년으로 넘어갈 때 느끼는 깊이 있는 세월의 미, The deep beauty of time felt when passing from middle to old age, 아름다움이 마치 현재의 매화나무가 그런 모습을 보여줍니다. Today I will talk about Maehwa. 매화의 특징/장점에 관한 이야기입니다. This is a story about the characteristics/benefits of Maehwa.. 제가 현장에서 캔버스를 펼치고 매화를 그린 것이 20년이 넘습니다. It's been over 20 years since I've been painting Maehwa in the outdoor 그래서 현장에서 보고 그렸던 경험을 바탕으로 얘기 드리겠습니다. So, I will talk about it based on what I saw and painted in the outdoor. 첫 번째, 매화는 격이 있다, 품격이 느껴집니다. First, Maehwa have dignity (classy). I can feel the dignity. 다른 꽃이 피는 나무나 식물과는 차원이 다른 매력이 있습니다. It has a completely different charm than other flowering trees or plants. 두 번째, 세월의 아름다움과 세월의 미를 느낄 수 있습니다. Second, I can feel the beauty of time. 세 번째는 매화자체에 대한 풍부하고 신비로운 매력을 많이 느낄 수 있습니다. Third, I can feel the rich and mysterious charm of Maehwa. itself. 다시 구체적으로 얘기하면, To be specific again, 격, 품격이란 사람으로 얘기하면 깊은 수양과 학식을 갖춘 사람에게서 느낄 수 있는 아우라, In human terms, class is the aura that can be felt in a person with deep discipline and knowledge. 품격 있는 모습/말/언행 등 여러 가지에 의해서 사람이 살아온 과정 속에서 느낄 수 있는 것처럼, Just as a person can feel it in the course of his life through various things such as dignified appearance/words/deeds, 매화역시 오랜 세월을 거쳐 오면서 그 나름대로의 모양이 있는데, Maehwa also have its own shapes over time. 이것이 다른 나무들보다는 독특한 형태/형상을 띈 것을 볼 수 있습니다. I can see that this has a unique shape/shape compared to other trees. 거칠고 매우 힘차고 그런 신비스런 모습과 극적으로 대비되는 It is rough and very powerful, and it contrasts dramatically with such a mysterious appearance. 꽃이 피는 모습은 매우 절제되면서도 자유분방한 것들이 팽팽한 긴장감이 느껴지기도 하면서도 The appearance of flowers blooming is very restrained and free-spirited, but there is also a sense of tension. 평온한 신비스런 모습이 많이 와 닿습니다. I can feel the dignity in these things. 그다음에, 세월의 향기란 것은 오래된 고매 같은 경우, Next, the scent of time is like an old Maehwa tree, 한국에서 가장 오래된 매화나무는 600년이 넘은 것이 몇 그루 있는데, Some of the oldest Maehwa tree in Korea are over 600 years old. 적어도 100~200년이 넘으면 나무가 독특한 모습이 되는데, When a tree is at least 100 to 200 years old, it takes on a unique appearance. 곧 나무가 죽을 듯 썩은 이끼가 피는 가운데서도 새봄이 되면 Even when the tree looks like it will die soon and rotten moss blooms, when new spring comes, 정말고운 꽃잎과 꽃 몽우리를 보면 정말 감탄을 하게 됩니다. I am truly amazed when I see the really pretty petals and flower clusters. 그런 세월이 매년 반복됩니다. Those years repeat every year. 이러한 것들이 해가 쌓일수록 나무에서 느껴지는 As the time runs, these things can be felt in the trees. 꽃이 피는 과정을 바라보는 기쁨과 설렘은 The joy and excitement of watching flowers bloom is 직접 현장에서 볼 때 감동이 더 크게 와 닿습니다. even more impressive when I see it in person. 그러한 세월의 미 The beauty of those years 그 다음(세 번째), 매화종류는 굉장히 다양합니다. Next (third), there are many different kinds of Maehwa. 꽃 색깔과 모양, 나무 형태도 다양한데 보통 꽃 크기는 엄지손가락 손톱만한데, There are various flower colors, shapes, and tree shapes, but the average flower size is the size of a thumbnail. 꽃이 너무 커도 요란스러운데 이정도면 좋은데, If the flowers are too big, it's loud, but this is fine. 그런 크기이면서 꽃받침, 꽃잎이 다섯 개가 단아하게 보기 좋은데 Even though it is that size, it has five sepals and petals that look elegant. 어떤 경우엔 꽃잎이 6개 혹은 겹으로 10개 이상이기도 하는데, In some cases, there are 6 or more than 10 in layers of petals. 어쨌든 이 꽃잎과 꽃받침 꽃 수술에서 풍부하고 변화무쌍한 신비스런 느낌이 많이 느껴집니다. Anyway, the petals and sepals of this flower give off a lot of rich, ever-changing, mysterious feelings. 다른 것과는 많이 차별화 되고.... It is very different from others... 그다음에 꽃과 가지와 나무둥치에서 느껴지는 극단적인 대비, Next, the extreme contrast felt in the flowers, branches, and tree trunks, 이런 것들이 보면 볼 수 록 신비롭습니다. The more you look at these things, the more mysterious they become. 매화 향기도 참 좋은데 계속 그림을 그리다보면 은은하고 깊이 있는 설명하기 어려운 매력이 있습니다. The scent of Maehwa is really nice, but if I keep painting, it has a subtle and deep charm that is difficult to explain. 제가 하루 종일 캔버스를 펼치고 그림을 그리다보면 한 두 시간 매화향이 뿜어져 나옵니다. When I paint outdoors all day, the scent of plum blossoms wafts out for an hour or two. 하루 종일 매화향이 나는 것은 아니다. It doesn't smell like Maehwa all day long. 주기적으로 향이 진하게 뿜다가 없어지는 것을 반복합니다. The scent periodically emits a strong scent and then disappears. 작업에 몰두하다보면 그러한 즐거움에 빠져듭니다. When I focus on my work, I fall into such joy. 그리고 이 나무는 지금 절정을 지나고 꽃잎이 많이 떨어졌는데, And this tree is now past its peak and many of its petals have fallen. 꽃 밭침을 보면 무척 아름답습니다. It is very beautiful to see the flower fields. 제가 몇 년전 부터 매화꽃도 그렇지만 꽃받침과 꽃 수술도 관심을 갖고 보는데 For several years now, I have been interested in plum blossoms as well as their calyxes and stamens. 마치 수많은 밤하늘의 별이 반짝이는 것처럼 수많은 아름다운 사연들이 느껴집니다. It feels like countless beautiful stories are twinkling in the night sky. 다시 얘기하면, 매화는 품격이 느껴진다. In other words, Maehwa blossoms feel and dignity (classy). 격이 다른 나무에서는 볼 수 없는 매력이 강하다. It has a strong charm that cannot be found in other trees. 품격과 세월의 미, 그리고 매화자체의 아름다운 매력 The dignity (classy) and time, and the beautiful charm of the Maehwa blossom itself, 이 세 가지가 내가 관심을 갖고 매화에 빠져드는 이유입니다. these three things are the reasons why I am interested and fall in love with the Maehwa. ======================================== ======================================== ======================================== Wonderful Life 멋진 인생 Cycling in Spring in the Mountain 봄꽃 만발한 산에서 자전거타기 이 카메라 받침대는 오늘 처음 이용하는데 아주 튼튼하고 좋아요. Today, I am using this mini Camera Stand first time and it's very nice. 몇 일전까지만 해도 초여름 날씨처럼 기온이 높았는데, Until a few days ago, the temperature was high like early summer. 그러다가 갑자기 0도 가까이 내려갔는데, 오늘은 딱 좋은 날씨입니다. Then suddenly it dropped to near 0 degrees, but today it is fine. 제가 오늘은 처음으로 자전거를 타면서 직접 비디오를 찍어 봅니다. Today, I am taking a video while riding a bike for the first time. 저 뒤에 보이는 산이 울산 문수산입니다. That mountain is Mt. Munsusan in Ulsan. 늘 여기 산 고개까지 자전거를 타고 올라옵니다. I always cycling to this mountain pass. 아주 상쾌해요. It is very refreshing. 목련꽃이 활짝 이었습니다. The magnolia flowers are in full bloom now. ============================== 이곳은 울산 남쪽 끝입니다. This is the south of Ulsan. 우측에 보이는 7번 국도는 울산-부산-경주로 이어집니다. National Highway No. 7 on the right connects Ulsan-Busan-Gyeongju. 저기 산 정상으로 이어진 고속도로는 울산-밀양-부산-대구로 연결됩니다. The highway that leads to the top of the mountain connects Ulsan-Miryang-Busan-Daegu 그 앞 도로는 부산 노포동으로 가는 자동차 전용도로입니다. The road in front of it is a dedicated car road to Busan Nopo-dong. 여기서 쪽으로 조금만 더 가면 부산 해운대로 가는 고속도로와 연결됩니다. Go a little further to the left, it connect to the highway to Busan Haeundae beach. 거기 분기점에서 울산-경주-포항으로 가는 고속도로가 있고, At the junction there is the highway to Ulsan-Gyeongju-Pohang, 시내 쪽으로 들어가면 경부고속도로(울산-경주-대구)로 연결됩니다. And go towards the city, it connect to the Gyeongbu Expressway (Ulsan-Gyeongju-Daegu). 한마디로 이곳은 사방으로 교통이 잘 연결된 곳입니다. In short, this place is well connected to transportation in all directions. 제가 사는 곳은 저 산 너머 숲속아파트에서 20년 넘게 살고 있습니다. I live in an Apartment in the forest over that mountain for over 20 years. 지금 벚꽃이 활짝 피고 있지만 매화도 곳곳에 남아있습니다. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom now, but the Maehwa (Plum) Blossoms are still here and there. 그래서 이 아름다운 계절에 멋진 풍경을 자전거를 타고 담고 싶었습니다. So I wanted to capture the beautiful scenery of this beautiful season by Cycling. 오늘 이렇게 꽃길을 달려 봅니다. Today, I'm Cycling along the flower path. 우리들 인생도 이 세상 삶도 많은 사람들이 꽃길을 달리면 좋을 텐데... It would be nice if many people's lives, both ours and this world's, were to run on a flowery path, 지금 현실은 그렇지 못한 것 같습니다. but the current reality doesn't seem to be like that. 그래도 희망을 갖고.... But I believe tomorrow will be better... 저 오리들 찍으려고 하면 곧바로 날라 갑니다. If I try to take a picture of those ducks, they fly right away. 그래도 두 마리 찍었네요. 대체로 두 마리씩 짝지어 다니더군요. But I took two pictures. They usually travel in pairs. ============================== 여름에 이 산고개를 넘으려면, 숲이 많이 무성한데, If I want to cross this mountain pass in the summer, the forest is very thick, 문제는 지난겨울 산고개를 넘을 때 멧돼지를 두 마리나 만났습니다. The problem is that I met two wild boars when I crossed this mountain last winter. 두 번씩이나 그래서 해가 넘어가기 전 빨리 지나가려고 노력합니다. I met them twice, so I am trying to pass quickly before the sun sets. 멧돼지를 두 번 만날 때도 해가 질 때였습니다. The two times I met the wild boars, it was also at sunset. 진달래꽃은 아주 잠깐만 피었다가 집니다. Azalea flowers bloom just short time and then fall. 어린 시절 진달래꽃을 야산에서 많이 따 먹었어요. When I was young, I picked and ate a lot of azalea flowers in the mountains. 그때 그 시절이 떠오릅니다. I remember those days. 한국인 정서에 진달래 꽃은 깊게 와 닿습니다. Azalea flowers touch the Korean sentiment deeply. 이곳의 또 다른 장애는 여름철에 뱀이 자주 나타납니다. There are many snakes in this mountain area. 이 경사가 매우 가파른데, 그래도 올라갑니다. This slope is very steep, but I can ride. 역동적인 대한민국의 모습을 보는 것 같습니다. It seems like Dynamic country of South Korea. 사실 울산은 대한민국의 산업수도로서 In fact, Ulsan is the industrial capital of South Korea 1960년대 초 국가공업지역으로 지정된 뒤 한국경제 발전에 가장 상징적인 곳입니다. Has been the most symbolic city for the development of Korean economy since designated as a National Industrial Zone in the early 1960s. 이마에서 땀이 주룩주룩 흘러내리고 있습니다. Sweat is dripping down from my forehead now. ============================= ============================= ============================= 시작단계에서 중요한 것은, 유화물감과 릭퀸을 섞는 것이다. Mixing Oil Paints and Liquin Oil before painting is important. 릭퀸 기름(Liquin Winsor & Newton 영국)은 유화물감을 빨리 굳게 하고, Liquin hardens Oil Paints quickly, 두껍게 칠해도 건조 후 갈라지지 않고, It does not crack after drying if paint thick layers. 오랜 세월 맑은 색을 유지할 수 있다. And it maintain clear colors for a long time. 그래서 나는 80년대 후반부터 릭퀸을 가장 많이 사용하고 있다. That's why I mix Liquin when I paint. 유화물감은 그날그날 쓸 만큼만 짜서 쓴다, I am trying to squeeze out the amount of paint I'll use that day, 87년부터 지금까지 르프랑(프랑스) 전문가용 유화물감을 가장 많이 사용하고 있다. I have been using LEFRANC professional Oil Paints the most since 1987. 르프랑 유화물감은 맑고 투명한 색깔을 살리기에 좋기 때문이다. Because LEFRANC Oil Paints are good for bringing out clear and transparent colors. 이외에도 필요할 때 사용하는 전문가용 유화물감을 소개하면, I also use another professional oil paints when necessary as followings. REMBRANT 램브란트(네델란드) Winsor & Newton 윈저 뉴튼(영국) SHINHAN 신한(국산) =============================== 나는 이곳 매화농원에 몇 일간 그림 그리러 올 때 숙식 준비를 했다. I prepared accommodations for when I came to here to paint for a few days. 잠은 차에서 자고, 먹는 건 직접 조리해서 먹을 계획이었다. I planned to sleep in the car and cook and eat my own food. 그런데, 이곳 매화농원 주인은 내게 숙식을 무료로 제공했다. But the owner of this Plum orchard offered me free lodging. 처음엔 거절했지만 할 수 없이 수락했다. 마음이 찡했다. At first I refused, but then I had to accept. My heart was moved. 나는 아름다운 꽃을 찾아 이곳에 왔는데, 그들은 꽃보다 더 아름다웠다. I came here to find a beautiful flowers, but they were more beautiful than flowers. 누가 뭐래도 사람이 꽃보다 아름다워. Whatever others say, people are more beautiful than flowers 매화농원 주인은 친구들과 점심을 먹을 때 나도 함께 먹자고 초대했다. The owner also invited me to have lunch with his friends. 너무너무 맛있었다. It was so, so delicious. 매화 향에 취하고, 매화 꽃에 취하고, 꽃보다 아름다운 사람에 취했다. This is the true heaven. Exactly we, we are the real love 그림 그리는 과정에 대한 상세한 설명은 다음에 할 계획이다. I will try to explain of the painting process next time. =============================== =============================== 훌륭한 예술작품이란 무엇인가? (어떤 것인가?) What is a great work of art? 작가(예술가), 감상자, 평가자 세 가지 입장에서 생각해 볼 수 있는데, 내 생각에 가장 중요한 근본을 이루는 핵심적 가치는 자유, 민주, 존엄 이 세 가지 가치로 구분할 수 있다. I think about it from three kinds of point (position) : the Artist, the Appreciator and the Scholar. I think the most important fundamental core values ????can be divided : Freedom, Democracy, and Dignity (Humanity). 작가는 자유로움이 보장될 때 좋은 작품이 되고, 민주적이고, 즉, 작가자신이 주인이고, 공정/공평한 경쟁에 의해서 작품이 이루어지고, 또 존엄, 인간적인 가치가 제대로 나타날 때 담겨져 있을 때! A good work is created when the artist is guaranteed Freedom, and is Democratic, that is, the artist himself is the owner, and the work is created through Fair/Equitable competition, and also when Dignity and Human values ????are properly expressed and contained! 이 세 가지 요소는 작품을 감상/소장하는 입장도 마찬가지라 생각한다. 자유로운 입장에서 자유로운 상태에서 온전하게 작품을 볼 수 있고, 또, 특정한 틀에 얽매이지 않는 민주적인 상황에서, 그리고 존엄 즉, 그 지향점이 가장 이상적인 단계가 무엇이냐? 인간성의 회복인데, 가장 인간적인 높은 경지에 이를 수 있는 방향일 때 가장 훌륭한 예술작품, 훌륭한 작가, 훌륭한 예술평가가 이루어진다고 생각한다. I think these three elements are the same for the position of appreciating/collecting the work. When people can fully view the work from a free position and in a free state, and in a democratic situation that is not bound by a specific framework (preconception, prejudice), and dignity, that is, what is the most ideal stage for its orientation? It is the restoration of humanity, and I think that the best artwork, great artist, and great art evaluation are achieved when it is in the direction of reaching the highest human level. 이런 방향에서 앞으로 구체적인 사례를 통해서 나의 경험을 바탕으로 하나하나 단계적으로 얘기 하고자 한다. 이것은 꼭 그림을 혹은 예술세계를 볼 때뿐만 아니라 세상을 살아가면서 느끼는 원리와 많이 관련지어 생각할 수 있다. In this direction, I would like to talk about it step by step, based on my experience, through specific examples. This can be thought of not only when looking at paintings or the world of art, but also in relation to the principles felt while living in the world. 나는 얼마 전 책 소개 글을 봤는데, 목차부분에서 방금 얘기한 세 가지가 중요하게 전개되고 있었다. 자유, 민주, 존엄성,... 그 책의 목차에는 한두 가지 내용이 더 있었는데, 그 책은 그림과는 별로 관계없는 삶의 철학적인 얘기를 하는 것이었는데, 어떻게 내가 지금 얘기 하는 내 삶을 통한 그림을 그리는 작가, 감상자 또 그것을 평가/보도/기록하는 세 가지 입장에서 지향해야할 높은 경지로 중요하다고 생각한다. I saw a book introduction a while ago, and in the table of contents, the three things I just mentioned were being developed importantly. Freedom, democracy, dignity,... There were one or two more things in the table of contents, and the book was talking about the philosophy of life that had nothing to do with painting, but I think it is important to aim for a high level from the three positions of the artist who paints the paintings through my life that I am talking about now, the viewer, and the person who evaluates/reports/records them. 우리가 그림을, 눈으로 보는 것은 매우 중요한 것이라 생각한다. 눈에 시각적으로 들어오는 것이 첫 번째 이야기의 출발이 되겠지만, 그런데 세상은 눈에 보이는 것만이 다는 아니라고 생각한다. 또 세상은 자기가 아는 것만큼 눈에 들어온다고 얘기하고 있기 때문에. I think that it is very important for us to see a picture with our eyes. What comes into our eyes visually is the starting point of the first story, but I think that the world is not all that we see with our eyes. Also, because it is said that the world comes into our eyes as much as we know. 그것에 대한 많은 생각이 정리된 다음에 우리가 세상을 보고 그림을 보면 많은 부분 새롭게 생각하고 판단할 수 있으리라 생각한다. 본인도 그동안 세상을 살아오면서 보고 느끼고 생각한 것들이 세상을 살면서, 세상에서 느낀 이야기들이 그림에서 비슷한 원리로 적용되는 것 같다. After a lot of thoughts about it are organized, I think we can think and judge a lot of things in a new way when we look at the world and see the paintings. I think that the things I have seen, felt, and thought while living in the world, and the stories I have felt while living in the world, are applied in a similar way in paintings. 그래서 세 가지 구성요소인 자유, 민주, 존엄 이3가지가 어떻게 갖춰져야 훌륭한 예술작품이 될 수 있을까? 그렇게 평가될 수 있을까?를 내 그림과 내가 경험한 과거, 현재, 또 다른 나라의 작가들, 다양한 사례를 살펴보면서 이야기 하고자 한다. 나의 이러한 이야기가 그림에 관심 있고, 세상을 보고 생각하는 여러분에게 참고가 되었으면 한다. So how can these three elements of freedom, democracy, and dignity be combined to create a great work of art? Can it be evaluated as such? I would like to talk about this by looking at my paintings, my past, present experiences, artists from other countries, and various cases. I hope that this story of mine will be a reference for those of you who are interested in paintings and who see and think about the world. 매화가 이럴 때 참 예쁜 것 같아요. 온 세상을 향해 환하게 미소 짓고 있는 표정을 별이 반짝이듯 이런저런 복잡한 생각을 다 잊게 된다. It seems best time to look at the Maehwa (Plum Tree) Blossoms right now. They smile brightly at the whole world, and their expressions twinkle like stars. They make me forget all my complicated thoughts. 그림을 그리고 매화에 집중하다보면, 대상에 집중해서 그리다보면, 무아지경에 빠지기도 한다. When I paint a picture and focus on the Maehwa, when I focus on the subject and paint, I fall into a Spiritual-Mediative State. 신나는 음악을 듣기도 하고, 분위기 있는 클래식을 듣기도 하고, 그러다 순수한 자연에 귀 기울이면서 새소리, 바람소리, 물소리가 내 마음을 평안하게 해 준다. 그런 후 무아지경으로 접어든다. I listen to exciting music, or classical music with a good mood, or listen to pure nature, and the sounds of birds, wind, and water bring peace to my mind. Then I enter a Spiritual-Mediative State. =============================== ============================== 저~ 산이 울산 문수산 고개를 넘는 곳인데, 나는 아침에 자전거를 타고 여기로 쭉 내려온다. 매화가 만발해서 가끔 이곳에서 그림을 그렸다. 매화를 그리면서 그림에 대해 이런저런 생각을 하다가 무아지경에 빠지기도 한다. 도로 위라서 긴장감이 넘치기도 하지만, 작업에 몰두하다보면 모든 다 잊어버리기도 한다. This is the place where the mountain passes over the Ulsan Munsusan Pass, I ride my bike all the way down here in the morning. The Maehwa (Plum Tree) Blossoms are in full bloom, so I sometimes paint here. While painting the Maehwa, I think about many things about the painting and sometimes I fall into A Spiritual-Meditative State.
