이곳은 울산에 있는 제 작업실입니다.

곧 있을 개인전 작품을 최종선별하고,
It is a final selection of paintings for upcoming solo exhibition,
액자에 작품을 넣고 있습니다.

약 30작품을 출품하려고 합니다.
I will exhibit approximately 30 works.
‘고향의 봄’을 주제로 약 30~40년간 고향과 관련된
With the theme of ‘Spring in my hometown’, where I have been for about 30 to 40 years.
주로 그쪽 지역에서 그렸던 그림을 전시합니다.
It mainly will exhibit paintings made in that region.
최근에 그린 그림들이 중심이지만,
The focus is on recent paintings,
10년 20년 심지어 30년 전 그림도 일부 전시합니다.
Some of paintings from 10, 20, or even 30 years ago are also will exhibit.

그런데 이 그림을 유심히 봤는데,
But I looked at this picture carefully,
저희 아버님이 경북 봉화에서 사과 과수원을 하셨기에,
Because my father had an apple orchard in Bonghwa, Gyeongbuk,
그곳에 자주 가서 그림을 그렸습니다.
I went there often and painted on canvas.

그런데 사과 꽃 절정은 불과 1주일 밖에 되지 않습니다.
However, the peak apple blossom season lasts only a week.
무척 짧은 기간 동안에 사과 꽃이 절정을 이루는데,
Apple blossoms reach their peak in a very short period of time.
이 그림은 2008년 2009년 그렸던 것 같은데,
I think this painting was painted in 2008 or 2009.
그동안 전시하지 않은 이유는
The reason it hasn't been on display so far is
여러 가지로 그림을 연구하기 위해서였습니다.
It was to study the paintings in various ways.
약 2년간 동안 그렸는데,
I painted it for about two years,
이번에 다른 사과꽃 그림과 비교하니
This time, compared to other apple flower paintings.
나름 괜찮은 것 같아 함께 전시하기로 했습니다.
It looks pretty good, so I decided to display it together.

그러니까 시간이 좀 지난 그림인데,
So, it's a picture that's been around a while.
이 사과 꽃 그림은 2003년에 그렸네요.
This picture of Apple blossoms was painted in 2003.
그리고 이번에 4월말~5월 중순까지, And this time from late April to mid-May,
소백산 사과 꽃을 배경으로 Sobaeksan Apple blossoms in the background
자전거를 타는 사람들을 넣으면서 그림에 변화를 주고 있는데,
By adding people riding bicycles, the picture is changing.
이 그림도 사과 꽃을 주제로 몇 일전까지 그렸던 그림입니다.
This painting is also a painting I painted few days ago
with the theme of apple blossoms.
아직 사인도 못했는데,,,,
I haven't even signed yet...

그래서 수년전에 그렸던 사과꽃 그림과
So, I painted a painting of an apple flower many years ago and
몇일 전 까지 그렸던 그림을 함께 전시할 것 입니다.
I will be exhibiting the pictures I drew a few days ago.
그리고 풋사과 그림,
And a painting of a green apple,
제가 사실 이런 풋사과 그림을 많이 그렸습니다.
I actually drew a lot of pictures of green apples like this.
풋사과란 익지 않은 7~8월에 풋풋한 풀냄새가 넘치는
Green apples are unripe apples that have a fresh, grassy smell from July to August.

제가 원래 이렇게 청/녹색을 많이 좋아하는데,
I like blue/green colors a lot.
그래서 그림에서 속도감과 역동적인 힘과 에너지가 넘치는 그림을
That were full of speed, dynamic power, and energy.
즐겨 그렸습니다.
So, I enjoyed painting pictures.
이런 표현은 사과뿐만 아니라 다른 그림을 그릴 때도 비슷합니다.
This expression is similar not only to apples but also to other paintings.
그래서 사과시리즈는 청춘의 싱그러운 느낌.
So the apple series has a refreshing feeling of youth.
이후에 바다시리즈를 즐겨 그렸습니다.
Afterwards, I enjoyed drawing the sea series.

전시할 사과 그림 중
Among the apple paintings to be exhibited,
큰 작품은 그쪽 지역으로 먼저 옮겼습니다.
the large size works were moved to that area first.
이 그림은 94년에 그린 것인데,
This picture was painted in 1994.
이렇게 청/녹색의 짙푸른 색감으로 인물을 즐겨 그렸습니다.
I enjoyed painting figure in deep blue/green colors like this.

요즘 다시 인물에 관심을 갖고,
These days, I'm interested in figure painting again,
역동적인 자연과 건강하고 활기차게 살아가는 사람들을 그리는데
It depicts dynamic nature and people living healthy and energetic lives.
저렇게 청/녹색을 즐겨 쓰면서 그림을 그리는데,
I like to paint using blue/green like that,
이 그림은 독일 뮌헨에 가서 그린 리버서핑입니다.
This picture is of River Surfing I painted in Munich, Germany.
세계적으로 유명한 곳인데, 독일에 자주 가서 그렸는데,
It's a world-famous place, and I often went to Germany to paint it.
제가 유럽에서 제일 관심을 갖고 그리는 곳인데,
This is the place I am most interested in painting in Europe.

어쨌든 이번전시는 Anyway, this exhibition
지난겨울 설중매를 시작으로
Starting with last winter's Snowy Maehwa,
사과 꽃이 피고 가을의 만추까지,
Apple blossoms blooming and until Fall's late autumn,
고향의 정서가 가득한 그림들,
Pictures filled with the emotions of hometown,
대부분 그쪽 지역에서 그린 것이 중심이 됩니다.
Most of the paintings are painted from that region.

이 그림도 이번에 같이 전시하려고 하는데,
I am planning to exhibit this painting as well this time.
부모님이 계신 시골집 앞마당엔 꽃이 많았습니다.
There were many flowers in the front yard of my parents’s country home.
채송화 꽃인데, 2년 동안 그렸습니다.
It's a Rose moss flower which I painted it for two years.
코로나 펜데믹 때 부모님 두 분은 돌아가셨지만
Both of my parents passed away during the coronavirus pandemic,
고향에 가면, 늘 정원에 가면 꽃이 가득했습니다.
But when I return to my hometown, it was full of flowers in the garden.
인생은 짧지만 예술은 영원하다고...
Life is short, but art is forever...

이 그림은 콩밭입니다. 20호 캔버스 두 점이 연결되는데,
This picture is of a soybean field. Two canvas are connected,
봉화 지역엔 콩/고추 등 밭농사를 많이 합니다.
There is a lot of field farming In Bonghwa, including soybeans and peppers.
산의 경사가 심해서 기계화가 어려운 곳인데,
It is difficult to mechanization due to the steep slope of the mountain.
그쪽엔 농사를 짓는 분들은 대부분 연세가 많아서 제때 수확을 못해서,
Most of the farmer are older and cannot harvest on time.
낙엽이 물든 가운데 As the fallen leaves change color,
고추도 그렇게 자연과 함께 색이 익어가고,
The Red peppers also ripen in harmony with nature.
장엄한 분위기가 너무 좋았습니다.
I loved the majestic atmosphere.

하지만 제때 수확을 못한 것은 안타까운 삶의 이야기입니다.
However, not being able to harvest on time is a sad story of life.
이번에 함께 전시하는데
This time I will exhibit it together.

이번 겨울에 소백산에 자주 올라갔는데,
I often climbed Mt. Sobaek this winter.
그곳에는 눈이 많이 옵니다. 4월 중순까지도 눈이 오는데,
It snows a lot there. It snows until mid-April.
그곳 희방폭포 앞에서 그린 그림입니다.
This is a picture painted in front of Huibang Falls.
주제에 맞는 그림을 선별해서 전시합니다.
I select and display paintings that fit the theme.

벽면에 걸린 이 그림은 중국 계림에서 그렸습니다.
This painting hanging on the wall was painted in Guilin, China.
다음에 기회를 봐서 전시하려고 합니다.
I plan to exhibit it next time I get the chance.

이 그림은 8월 중순에 울산문화재단 후원으로 개인전을 하는데,
This painting will be held in a Solo exhibition in mid-August sponsored by the Ulsan Cultural Foundation.
그때는 역동적인 그림을 전시할 계획인데,
At that time, I will exhibit dynamic paintings.
이 그림은 작은 편이지만 맘에 들어서 이렇게 꺼냈습니다..
This picture is small size, but I liked it.

어쨌든, 이번에 6/24~7/15까지
Anyway, this time, from June 24th to July 15th,
고향의 봄을 주제로 전시하는데,
there will be an exhibition with the theme of spring in my hometown.

이것은 브론즈(청동)으로 제작한 제 모습인데,
This is a sculpture of me made of bronze.
구상조각을 잘 하는 분께 부탁했는데,
I asked a good sculpturer who is good at figurative sculpture.
제가 40대 중반에 했던 것 같은데....
I think It was in my mid 40s...
15~20년 전, 15-20 years ago,
구상조각을 잘하는 작가한테 의뢰해서 제작했습니다.
I commissioned it from a sculpturer who is good at figurative sculpture.

이번 개인전에는, In this upcoming Solo exhibition,
유화그림들 중 가장 오래된, The oldest oil painting,
83년 대학1학년 때 그렸던 자화상 유화 그림도 1점 함께 전시할 계획입니다.
I will exhibit my self-portrait oil painting that I painted freshman at Art college in 1983.
이 브론즈 청동 조각상을 많이 무겁습니다.
This bronze statue is very heavy.
다음에 기회가 되면 전시할 생각입니다.

서울 거리에서 그렸던 그림을 소개하겠습니다.
I will introduce the paintings I drew on the streets of Seoul.
영상을 두 편으로 나누었습니다.
The video is divided into two parts.

첫 번째는 도심에서 활기차게 살아가는 삶의 모습을 소개합니다.
The first video introduces the vibrant life in the city center.

두 번째는 한강 등 역동적인 자연과 함께하는 삶의 모습을 소개합니다.

먼저, 서울 거리에서 그렸던 가장 오래된 그림부터 시작하겠습니다.
First, I will start with the oldest painting I drew on the streets of Seoul.

고등학교 때 그렸던 두 점의 수채화와,
Two watercolor paintings painted in high school,

대학교 1~2학년 때 그렸던 그림들 중 일부입니다.
and some of the paintings painted in my first and second year of Art College.
나머지는 2018년부터 서울에서 그렸던 그림입니다.
