이렇게 웅장하게 펼쳐진 이곳은 배 밭이고, 제목은 배꽃 바다입니다.
그림 배경의 높은 산은 골짜기가 깊습니다.
그곳에서 매화가 필 때 산에서 그림을 그리고 매화가 지면 진달래가 피고 배꽃도 핍니다. 이 배꽃이 있는 곳은 10분 거리에 동해 바다 간절곶이 있는데 주변엔 배 밭이 많습니다.

This magnificent place is the pear field, and the title is the sea of pear flowers.
The background shows high mountain with deep valley.
There, I draw the mountain when plum blossoms bloom, and after they fall, pear blossoms bloom. There is a Ganjeolgot (easternmost part of Korea) 10 minutes away, and there are full of pear fields around of it.

이번에 전시한 그림 상당수가 이곳에서 그린 것으로 정말 신선이 사는 듯 신비로운 기운이 넘치는 곳입니다. 그리고 이번 전시에는 서울에서 라일락이 피는 봄과 마스크를 쓰고 코로나를 극복하면서 열심히 사는 보습도 담았습니다.
전시를 열기 전 11월 까지는 경상북도에 있는 과수원에서 사과고목을 주제로 그리는 등, 1년 동안 사계절을 그렸기에 ‘자연의 순환’, ‘생명의 환희’의 즐거움을 캔버스에 담아서 전시를 했습니다.

Many of artworks exhibited this time were drawn there, and they are full of mysterious auras that make you believe a taoist hermit with magical power could live there.
And in this exhibition, I put everyday images of life putting on a mask and trying to overcome Corona Virus in the spring when lilac blooms in Seoul.
Before the exhibition was held I painted old apple trees at the orchard in Gyeongsangbuk-do until November. During the year, I exhibited the “Cycle of Nature" and "Joy of Life" that depicted the four seasons.

그래서 제가 그림 그리는 곳은 국내든 해외든 그 순간 가장 멋진 절정의 모습을 보면서 그립니다. 이 그림은 늦겨울 계곡인데 물이 흐르고, 낙엽이 많이 쌓이고, 이끼들이 바위에 핀 파릇파릇한 느낌이 땅의 기운이 살아 있습니다.
이곳에서 매화꽃이 피고 진달래가 피는데, 제가 이곳에서 한 달 넘게 캔버스를 펼치고 그림을 그리면 아침과 오후에 볼 때 꽃의 모양과 색깔이 다르게 와 닿거든요 그래서 그림이 더욱 풍부하고 모양도 색깔도 다르게 보입니다.
그림을 볼 때는 멀리서 보아도 도움 되고, 가까이에서 보면 섬세한 느낌의 리듬감과 생명의 기운이 호흡을 하는 거죠, 그렇게 봐 주시면 도움 되겠습니다.

Wherever I create artworks in Korea or overseas, I always try to depict the peak moment of the scene. This painting shows water flows in the valley at the end of winter, a lot of fallen leaves are piled up, and the moss pinned on the rock show up fresh energy.
Plums and Azaleas bloom here, and when I set the canvas for more than a month to capture this moment, I come in contact with different shapes and colors of flowers in the morning and afternoon. When you see the work from distance, it helps to capture entire feeling, also closer look help you to see the richer, more shaped and colored look.

이 사과나무는 40년이 되었고 주인은 백세를 맞이합니다.
정말 장수하셨는데, 사과나무는 보통 20년이면 생명을 다하고 생산성이 없습니다. 그런데 이 나무는 40년이 되는데도 주렁주렁 건강하게 잘 자랍니다. 제가 1994년부터 사과나무를 주제로 그림을 그렸는데 아무 곳에서나 그린 것이 아니라 이렇게 고목이면서 주렁주렁 탐스런 나무를 찾아가 그림을 그립니다.
그래서 올해도 경북 안동 지역에서 야생으로 자란 모습에 강렬한 인상을 받았습니다.
이 사과나무를 다 그릴 때 까지 현장에서 그렸는데, 생명의 기운과 자연의 순수한 영원한 아름다움을 캔버스에 담고자 했습니다.

This apple tree is 40 years old and its owner is almost 100 years old.
It’s has been a long life because apple trees usually become unproductive within 20 years. However, this tree has been growing well for 40 years, and it also produce appetizing apples.
I have drawn an apple tree since 1994. I don’t draw regular apple trees. I strictly choose rich and old tree and capture them.
Therefore, I was strongly impressed by the appearance of apple tree growing up in the wild in the Andong area of Gyeongsangbuk-do this year as well.
I put the momentum of life and the pure eternal beauty of nature on the canvas, which I drew on the spot until I drew all of this apple tree.
