바람 불어 좋은 날 - 연꽃의 환상(밀양시 아리나 연꽃단지)

7월 중순부터 시작한 연꽃 시리즈 마지막 작품을 어제 완성했다. 이번 여름, 너무 더웠기에 이 그림을 보면 아직도 그때의 기억이 생생하다.

용광로처럼, 태양은 지구를 불태웠고, 연꽃과 연잎은 넘치는 생명력으로 찬란한 생명의 환희를 느끼게 했다. 온종일 땀 흘리며 그렸지만 작업 내내 기분 좋게 그렸다.
작품의 생명력과 깊이감 그리고 나만의 개성적 표현에 대해 고민하면서 그렸다.

특히, 연꽃 시리즈는 올 여름 처음 시도했고, 해바라기 시리즈는 코로나 펜데믹 부터 시작했다. 수십 년간 그림을 그렸지만 가장 대중적인 이 두 가지 소재를 그리지 않은 것은 너무 많은 화가들이 그렸고 어디를 가든지 그림과 사진을 볼 수 있기에 너무 통속적인 것 같아 의식적으로 피했다. 하지만 세월이 흐르면서 내 마음도 유연해지는 것 같다.

연잎들도 황금빛으로 물들어갈때까지 마지막 작업을 무사히 기분좋게 마무리할 수 있게 아끼없는 관심과 도움을 주신 '밀양연지기 쉼터카페/갤러리' 사장님과 93세 92세 89세 88세 동네 어르신들께도 감사드린다!

I completed finished the last big size workof the lotus series, which I started in mid-July. This summer, the weather was so hot that I still vividly remember that time when I look at this picture.
Like a furnace, the sun burned the earth, and the lotus flowers and leaves made me feel the brilliant joy of life with my overflowing vitality. Although I drew sweat all day, I felt good throughout the work. In particular, the Lotus series was attempted for the first time this summer, and the Sunflower series began during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Now I am painting the Sunflower series in the countryside.
